Journal Entry Week 2

Shedding Light

Took this picture while walking around UP Academic Oval. This somehow provides me a certain rumination that at these times of uncertainties, we have to be reminded that better days are coming. As Thomas Fuller wrote on his travelogue:

"..the darkest hour is just before the dawn"

1) Self-Care: Work & Life Balance

The webinar by Asst. Prof. Francis Grace Duka-Pante from College of Education is very insightful specially it is designed with the distant learning in mind, where it provides key strategies for education resilience and learning continuity as a response to the current pandemic. I am very impressed with her detailed steps for "internal/cognitive troubleshooting", of which it is really a matter of perspective, just like the stick figure, if it is coming towards you, or away from you. While Vina Vicente and Christine del Rosario Bata's tandem made a huge impact on me as it motivates and empowered me towards achieving my goals---and to think it was for free?! (Thank you so much for looping us in). It's amazing how our intimate "virtual symposium" was very stirring as it was very engaging and have this personal touch although it was done online. Both channels remind me to be kind and be compassionate to others and most specially, to one's self, as if written on a post-it, the number one resource is: yourself

2) Teaching with Technology

Since the establishment of Interactive Learning Center (ILC) Diliman way back 2003, the program has gone through numerous pedagogical application of new technologies, so I am not surprised how savvy they are in terms of distance learning, an alternative to the traditional classroom. Their Online Class 101: A guide on tools for Conducting Classes Online web page as well as their hand out for considerations, tools and strategies for digitalization (aside from it is very simple yet comprehensive, I love the design as it is visually appealing and readable) was a complete armor for us to take for the virtual battlefield in terms of waging for efficient and effective online learning. Preparations, platforms, connectivity, tools and collaborations/teamwork were discussed in details--- but my major delight was the idea of synchronous and asynchronous as this was already happening in the past but it being presented with so much limelight. With proper guidance and instructional scaffolding, teaching with technology is very conducive, if not "ideal", for effective learning. Most of these concepts are relatively new to us but with courage and faith, we just simply have to "trust" the process.
